My quest for the perfect black bridesmaid dress has begun. When you’re asked to be someone’s bridesmaid it brings about a ton of emotions and questions (for me anyway). Feeling excited to celebrate love, dressing up and then asking yourself, when’s the wedding, what should I wear, how am I going to do my hair, what color shoes will I wear?

One of my best friends Nicole and her fiance are true examples of real life love. Their story is that of a fairy tale. From a serendipitous meeting one weekday night to getting engaged in Europe. They are two people who inspire me and who I can’t wait to see walk down the aisle. I’m sure I’ll be crying uncontrollably when that happens so I plan to stock up on lots of waterproof mascara. I’ll never forget the morning she and her now fiance called me on Skype to tell me the big news- boy should I have put on waterproof mascara then. All Nicole had to do was lift up her left hand and I knew, as soon as I saw the bling I started bawling like a baby. I’d never felt so overcome with joy and excitement all in one moment.
Now that wedding planning is in full force, I’m beginning my search for the perfect bridesmaid dress. Below are some of my ideas so far. I’m sure I’ll be posting more wedding related stuff moving forward, it’s an exciting life event I’m thrilled I get to be a part of.

If you or anyone you know has knowledge or tips for a first time bridesmaid I’d love to hear them!

Good luck, Mollie! I’m sure you’ll find the perfect dress. (btw…I like #2 & #3–middle and right in the top row)
Thank you Lorrie! I like #3 a lot too. 🙂
Hi!
My gals wore the ML ruched chiffon number in gunmetal that you pictured above and looked great (#1 on the second row)!.
If you are open to long I would also suggest the ML one shoulder in black. Here is the link.

I wore it to a Junior League event and it was a great classic- the review doesn’t do it justice. I can send you pictures of both if you would like.
Hope you are doing well!

Thanks, Christy! The one you sent me is beautiful! We’re all still brainstorming ideas, definitely plan on going in and trying on all of these numbers to see how they look and feel. Thank you again! 🙂
First time bridesmaid, huh? Well, it may seem obvious but its true. You need to wear something that expresses YOU and you feel comfortable in. That also goes for your hair, your makeup, and your shoes. I’ve worn things before to make the bride happy (which sometimes you just gotta do) and I look back on pictures and cringe because it doesn’t even look like me. And SHOES! Pick them out far in advance. Don’t buy uncomfortable or even sorta uncomfortable ones. They need to be SO comfortable because your feet will HURT! And make sure to wear them in before the big day. Nothing is worse than blisters. Last but not least, don’t forget the waterproof mascara (and maybe a tissue tucked into your bouquet. I don’t know about you, but weddings are tear-jerkers for me…especially when its someone I am close to.
I took notes, Mimi! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I’m definitely shooting for a good balance of wearing something the bride likes and that’s within her parameters but also wear something that’s true to my style. 🙂
