I grew up idolizing my mother, what little girl doesn’t right? From a young age she’d have me accompany her to her hair appointments at Gene Juarez, I think I was 10 or 11 when I got my first hair cut there, from that moment on I was hooked! I knew from my mother’s example that proper hair care is just as important as drinking the recommended 8 glasses of water per day.
Just as showering, brushing your teeth and dressing well (hygiene and fashion) are important, it is vital to remember that your hair needs lovin’ too! I wrote a blog post a while back about what people notice about others they’re possibly interested in when they first see them, do you know what came up the most? Hair!
1. Do you have a hair stylist/guru that you trust with your hair?
Above is a picture of Kevin, he’s my guy at Gene Juarez. The only person on this planet, besides myself whom I trust with my hair. I’ll never forget meeting Kevin, the first thing I noticed was that he was good looking (can you blame me?), the second thing I noticed was his honesty with me in regard to my hair. I sat down in his chair, asked for a certain type of hair cut that at the time was all the rage. You see I figured Kevin would smile, nod and say sure let’s do that. On the contrary, Kevin turned my chair, looked me in the eyes and basically advised me that what I was asking wasn’t the most ideal situation for my hair. I was kind of surprised for a second and then really impressed that he was so straightforward with me. Kevin knows the shape of my face, my personality and style- he knows which hair cuts and styles would be flattering on me. It’s important to have someone who you consistently visit every 6-8 weeks for your trim or touch up that you can trust will look out for you and your hair. Kevin has been with me through blonde hair, short hair cuts, broken hair, bangs and going back to brunette.
A few products I use in my hair are…
Shu Uemura Silk Bloom shampoo and conditioner
Kerastase leave in conditioner
Kerastase Mousse for a little bit of volume
AEROGEL hairspray
Happy haircare!
